This morning started off rainy and cold, just the kind of weather that I wanted to stay in bed just a bit longer and avoid. But that was not to happen, there was riding to do!
Why do I love riding in Western Massachusetts? Because there is so much local history, stunning scenery, and nice people in quaint small towns. This morning I took a rather typical 20 mile tour up Pratts Corner, a winding gravel road through the woods leading up to the village of Shutesbury. This is one of my favorite rides. Once I arrived at the summit in Shutesbury, the sun broke through the clouds….making me want to tackle the steep extra 1.2 mile Prescott Road going down to Rt 202. I just can’t avoid finding some hill or mountain, loving that burning feeling in the lungs and on the quads is just what I need. In all it was a 23 mile ride with 2,100 feet of climbing, on what turned out to be a sweet morning.
