Summer 2019I like to travel. Period. As a French teacher I look for opportunities to learn about and see new places, to create new memories and friendships. This past summer included working as a bilingual French-English tour guide for https://www.makwa-travel.com/, a  teen-based tour operator based out of Montreal that connects with French tour companies who bring teens over to learn about the U.S.  It was an awesome and fun experience!

For two weeks, 16 days to be more precise, we covered almost 2,400 miles while exploring the desert southwest.  Our motley group of mostly Quebecois guides along with two vans of 24 French teens experienced the highlights of the Southwest, including L.A., Lake Havasu, The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite and finally San Francisco. We camped, we hiked, we shared stories, we ate great food(and lots of bad food). For me personally Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley were highlights of the trip.  I still find it hard to imagine that I had the chance to visit these majestic sights.  I have been working with teenagers and teen-based tour companies for most of 13 years.  This group in particular was an amazingly curious, super respectful and fun group to guide for. This experience also showed me how awesome it would be to bike and tour in the Southwest…..the ideas are already flowing.
